The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antequera hosted the presentation of a tribute book to historian Antonio Parejo Barranco, who passed away in 2013. At the same event, a bust of him created by artist Paula Castro was unveiled.

The headquarters of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antequera held the presentation of the book “Studies in Tribute to Professor Antonio Parejo Barranco” on 16 October. The publication compiles articles and academic studies in memory of the Antequera historian, who died in 2013.

The event was presided over by the mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, alongside the director of the Royal Academy, Mercedes Fernández-Paradas, and the president of the Institute of Academies of Andalusia, José Escalante. Both coordinated the book, published by the City Council of Antequera. Also in attendance were the first deputy mayor and vice president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Juan Rosas, and councillors Sara Ríos, José Medina Galeote, and Marta González.

As the mayor explained, the work is a recognition of Parejo's career as a teacher, historian, and researcher, particularly in economic history and the processes of industrialisation. Barón highlighted his studies on the industrialisation of Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, and Europe during the first two industrial revolutions, and emphasised the need to disseminate his scientific output as part of the historiographical heritage of the city.

In his speech, Barón recalled that in September 2013, the City Council dedicated the Antequerana Room of the Municipal Library of San Zoilo to Parejo. He also described him as a rigorous, approachable person with a particular sense of humour.

“Antonio has not left us because he has left something very important, which is his work, his research”

Finally, the commemorative bust of the former City Chronicler, created by artist Paula Castro, was presented, which concluded the tribute event.
