The Museum of Art of the Provincial Council of Málaga (MAD) in Antequera exhibits twenty works by painter Cristina Vázquez that portray happiness in everyday summer and seaside scenes. The exhibition will be open until January 24.

The Museum of Art of the Provincial Council of Málaga (MAD) in Antequera inaugurated the exhibition "You Are Happy and You Don't Know It" by painter Cristina Vázquez this Friday. The exhibition features twenty works in oil, acrylic, and watercolour that can be viewed in the museum's temporary halls until January 24.

The presentation included remarks from the Councillor for Culture of the Antequera City Council, José Medina Galeote; the provincial deputy responsible for Culture, Manuel López Mestanza; and the artist herself. Also present were the deputy mayor Alberto Arana and councillor Paqui Sánchez. Among the audience was actress Ana Milán, a friend of the author.

The pieces bring the viewer closer to recognisable situations: conversations by the water, swimming, walks along the shore, and moments of rest that, through Vázquez's gaze, acquire a special meaning as expressions of well-being and happiness. The beaches of Matalascañas (Huelva), as well as scenes from Menorca and Lanzarote, inspire compositions where light and colour play a leading role.

During his speech, Medina Galeote highlighted the personality of the artist's pictorial proposal, emphasising the difficulty and value of finding "a unique language from which to communicate." The councillor noted the presence of popular scenes filled with light, the closeness of the water, and the playful component of works that connect with the everyday.

Medina also shared some of the references suggested by his journey through the exhibition, from scenes captured by photographer Carlos Pérez Siquier to the aerial views of Juan Genovés or the so-called "relax style," linked to architecture and Málaga's tourist modernity.

For his part, López Mestanza highlighted Cristina Vázquez as one of the main representatives of Spanish neocostumbrismo, with a body of work that captures everyday happiness associated with summer and the sea. The author acknowledges the influence of Sorolla and photography, particularly its ability to capture spontaneous moments.

The exhibition also pays attention to care and mutual support through a series of watercolours featuring women walking together on the beach, holding each other by the arm, or helping each other against the movement of the waves.

Born in Cáceres in 1973, raised in Andalusia and based in Seville, Cristina Vázquez holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, specialising in Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art. Her career combines painting, restoration, artistic documentation, and exhibition curation, in addition to her fashion project "El Gabinete de las Maravillas."

The exhibition can be visited in the temporary halls of MAD in Antequera until January 24.
