The Municipal Theatre School of Antequera opens registration from September 1 to 20 for its 2026-2027 course, with 170 places and new musical theatre groups.

The Antequera Theatre Association, in collaboration with the City Council, has announced the opening of registration for the new course of the Municipal Theatre School, which will begin on October 1. The Councillor for Culture, José Medina, and Antonio Navarro, a representative of the association, presented the details of an edition that expands its offer to 170 places, responding to the high demand from previous years.

Places and groups for all ages

The classes will be divided into three children's groups for children aged 5 to 12, a youth group for ages 13 to 17, and eight adult groups, among which a new group specialised in musical theatre stands out. Registrations will be conducted exclusively through the association's website, www.antequerateatro.com, from September 1 to 20.

Antonio Navarro explained that, although places are limited, those who are placed on the waiting list will be able to join during the first term as vacancies arise. “It’s an opportunity not to miss the theatre train,” he stated.

“We want no one to be left out, which is why we have enabled the waiting list and provide flexibility in admissions,” said Antonio Navarro.

October programme: theatre for all tastes

The Casa de la Cultura in Antequera will host an intense schedule of performances during the month of October. The cycle will kick off on October 3 and 4 with ‘The Mousetrap’, the classic play by Agatha Christie. This will be followed by ‘Peach without Syrup’ (October 17), by Mainake Teatro; ‘Maribel and the Strange Family’ (October 24); and the Halloween classic, ‘Don Juan Tenorio’, on October 31 and November 1.

In November, the programme will continue on November 20 with ‘Rings for a Lady’ and on November 21 with ‘The Shadow of Doña Inés’, also by Mainake Teatro. Most performances will take place in the evening, with affordable prices ranging from 5 to 10 euros.

Additionally, the school maintains its commitment to theatrical exchanges: several of the plays will also be performed outside of Antequera, in locations such as Malaga city and Ronda, allowing students to showcase their work on other stages.

How to register and key deadlines

Those interested must formalise their registration between September 1 and 20 through the Antequera Teatro website. The price for the full course is 120 euros per term, with discounts for large families and residents of Antequera. Classes will begin on October 1 and will be held at the Casa de la Cultura in the evening.

For the residents of Antequera, this school represents a unique opportunity for artistic training at the local level, avoiding trips to the capital. “It is a pride that our city has such a comprehensive theatrical offering,” highlighted Councillor José Medina.

With 170 places and a programme that spans from classical theatre to musicals, the Municipal Theatre School of Antequera is consolidating itself as a cultural reference in the region. Interested individuals can find more information on the association's website or by calling the Culture department of the City Council.
