The city hosts a meeting between the Housing Department and developers to promote the construction of affordable housing. The mayor calls for collaboration to respond to a "real and palpable" problem.
Antequera was the venue on Tuesday for a working meeting between the Department of Housing, Youth and Land Planning of the Junta de Andalucía and FADECO Promoters to analyse the situation of the real estate sector and address the lines to promote affordable housing.
The meeting was held at the Hotel Finca Eslava and was attended by the mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón; the councillor Rocío Díaz; and the president of FADECO, Ignacio Peinado, along with provincial representatives and the executive team of the Department. The deputy mayor for Housing, Alberto Arana, also participated.
Barón welcomed the attendees and thanked them for choosing Antequera for this first meeting of the term. He described access to housing as "a latent, real and palpable problem" in the city, in Málaga, and across Spain, and advocated the need to work "together" to find solutions.
"We must all work together to ensure that a real problem like housing begins to find solutions," stated Manolo Barón.
The mayor reminded that the City Council is working to make land available for new affordable housing developments, taking advantage of the Decree-Law 1/2025 on urgent housing measures from the Junta de Andalucía.
For his part, Ignacio Peinado summarised the sector's objectives in three lines: "more housing, more affordable, and more agile." He emphasised the importance of leveraging the experience of developers to refine regulatory tools and expedite the transformation of land into new homes.
Councillor Rocío Díaz identified among the challenges the update of the Plan Vive in Andalucía, the regulatory development of the Andalusia Housing Law, and regulatory modifications to expedite promotions. She also advocated for public-private collaboration and noted that 180 Andalusian municipalities have already adhered to the measures of the regional decree.
Díaz thanked the City Council for its hospitality and highlighted Antequera's "strategic character" as a meeting place for representatives from all Andalusian provinces.
