A 30-year-old woman stabbed to death in Antequera in an alleged gender-based crime

The National Police are investigating the violent death of a 30-year-old woman at her home on Maderuelos Street, in the centre of Antequera. Her ex-partner, also 35 years old, has committed suicide hours later.

María, 30 years old, was found dead in her home on Maderuelos Street, right in the centre of Antequera, around 14:00 on Monday. She had multiple stab wounds, according to police sources. Everything points to this being a new case of gender-based violence in the province of Málaga.

The alleged attacker commits suicide hours later

Hours after the discovery, the victim's ex-partner, a 35-year-old man, jumped to his death from the Mirador de las Almenillas, in the monumental area of Antequera. The police are investigating the relationship between both events, although all indications suggest that the man would be the perpetrator of the stabbing.

The couple had two children together and were within the Viogén system, the comprehensive monitoring system for cases of gender violence. However, according to sources close to the investigation, they had requested the withdrawal of protective measures.

Fourth gender-based crime in July in the province

With this case, there have now been four women violently murdered in the province of Málaga so far in July. Just two weeks ago, in Mijas, a 61-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter were allegedly stabbed by the mother's boyfriend, who then set fire to the house. In Rincón de la Victoria, another woman was found dead in a well; her ex-partner confessed to the crime.

The Gender Violence Unit of the Málaga Government Subdelegation is gathering data to determine if this is a gender-based murder.

In Antequera, the shock is immense. Exactly two years ago, in July 2024, another gender-based murder was recorded in a scattered area of the Vega, with a 50-year-old victim. The town is now facing a new episode of gender violence that leaves two orphaned children.

The investigation remains open and new lines of inquiry are not ruled out. The National Police are working to clarify the facts and confirm the connection between both deaths. Meanwhile, the community of Antequera is expressing its shock and preparing to pay tribute to the victim.
