The Parochial Association will present the new statue of the Divina Pastora, created by Jonathan Alonso, on Saturday, October 10, during a Eucharist at 18:00 and an extraordinary procession from 19:00 through the streets of Marbella.
The Parochial Association of the Divina Pastora of Marbella will solemnly present its new titular image on Saturday, October 10, a statue by the sculptor Jonathan Alonso that will remain hidden until that day. The day will begin at 18:00 hours with a Eucharist in the church square of this neighbourhood, presided over by the emeritus bishop of Málaga, Jesús Catalá, who will bless the image.
Starting at 19:00 hours, the extraordinary procession will travel along Avenida de Europa, Calle Padre Jesús Nazareno, Calle Arte, Calle Salinas, Calle Trinidad, Plaza de la Iglesia, and on the return, Calle Trinidad, Calle Salinas, Calle Arte, Avenida Nabeul, Calle Málaga, Calle Palmar, Calle San Antonio, Avenida de Europa, and back to the church of the Divina Pastora.
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, along with the councillor for Citizen Participation, Enrique Rodríguez, has supported the initiative and highlighted the involvement of the parish, the association, and the local residents. The mayor has encouraged participation and assured that "they will always have the full support of the City Council because we are proud that there is increasing participation in events like this that above all foster community."
The parish priest David Morales explained that the statue, measuring 160 centimetres in height, responds to the desire to have a reference image for the temple and the neighbourhood. It depicts the Divina Pastora seated on a stone and accompanied by a little lamb, with "the face of a loving mother and much tenderness." The association's intention is for it to remain in the church as the titular image and for its first outing to bring it closer to the residents.
The president of the association, Carmen Herrero, has encouraged participation, especially from those who wish to help carry the throne, and noted that the choir will collaborate with Lágrimas del Carmen. "We are very excited for the day to arrive on the 10th," she stated.
