The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, highlights the daily commitment of the staff and advances the municipal commitment to provide the city with a new police station. The event included recognitions for retired agents and those who died in the line of duty.
The municipality of Marbella hosted commemorative events on Friday for the patron saint of the National Police, a day dedicated to honouring the local staff and presenting awards for police merit, to agents who retired in the past year and to those who died in the line of duty.
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, thanked the officers for their work and particularly highlighted the efforts of the commissioner, Esther Martín. The mayor emphasised that the municipality "needs you and values the work you do on a daily basis" and had words for the families of the officers, "who accompany and share the demands of your profession."
"The coordination and trust among professionals directly impacts the citizens," the mayor stated.
Muñoz underscored the collaboration between the National Police, the Local Police, the Civil Guard, and other security forces, and announced the municipal commitment for Marbella to have a new police station in the future, with facilities suited to the municipality's needs. The mayor concluded by conveying to the officers and their families "our heartfelt gratitude" for their professionalism and closeness to residents and visitors.
For her part, the commissioner of the National Police in Marbella, Esther Martín, emphasised the significance of this day as an opportunity to renew the commitment to a profession based on "serving and protecting others." The police chief highlighted the work carried out over the past year in a city she described as "extraordinary and an international tourist reference," especially during peak months, and noted the staff's efforts in preventing and investigating crimes.
In her speech, Martín detailed the strengthening of operations aimed at combating organised crime, drug trafficking, property crimes, and cybercrime, as well as the protection of vulnerable groups. The commissioner thanked the collaboration of the City Council and, in particular, the Local Police, and highlighted the addition of new officers and more than fifty interns. The event concluded with a recognition of the decorated agents, retirees, and those who died in the line of duty.
