The Málaga Racing Team (MART) from the University of Málaga has presented its new electric single-seater, the MA26RT, at an event in Muelle Uno sponsored by former F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari.

The MA26RT is already on the move. The Málaga Racing Team (MART), the Formula Student team from the University of Málaga, unveiled its new electric single-seater on Friday at Muelle Uno, in front of dozens of curious onlookers who came to learn about the project.

The event, under the slogan "No Limits. Just MART", was attended by the rector of UMA, Juan Teodomiro López Navarrete, and former Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari, who acted as the godfather of the new vehicle. Before the event, Alguersuari gave a masterclass at the Centre Pompidou.

Two international events this summer

The team, made up of more than 70 students from a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, is preparing for two international competitions. The first will be Formula Student Spain, from August 1 to 7 at the Montmeló circuit (Barcelona). The second, Formula Student Alpe Adria, will take place from August 18 to 23 at the Croatian Bugatti Rimac circuit.

In Formula Student, speed is not the only factor: design, efficiency, and a business plan developed by the students are also evaluated. The single-seater goes through phases of design, assembly, and consumption and performance testing before hitting the track.

"It is a pride to see how the young talent from UMA is capable of competing at the highest international level," said the rector during the event.

A decade of experience and a new chair

The presentation coincided with the announcement of the creation of the DHV-MART-UMA Chair for Innovation and Talent, a milestone that comes after ten years of the team's journey. Alicia Moya, Team Leader of MART, reviewed the highlights of the season.

The project is primarily funded through the UMA Experience programme and the School of Industrial Engineering, as well as sponsorships. Beyond competition, MART develops initiatives such as MART Academy, MART Social (monthly charitable actions in Málaga), and MART Academy School, to bring engineering closer to younger people.

The day ended with live performances by DJ Alex Zamora and the group Amazona Rock. The single-seater, which sparked great interest among the public, will be on display at Muelle Uno throughout the weekend.

For the people of Málaga, seeing a project like this in such an iconic location as Muelle Uno demonstrates that innovation is not only on the circuits but also in the classrooms of UMA. Who knows if the next Alonso or Sainz will emerge from here.
