The Junta of Andalucía has published the final list of approved hunting grounds for the European turtle dove during the 2026-2027 season. According to the announcement, Andalucía will have a quota of 40,338 specimens.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food established this figure following the allocation of a total quota of 121,500 specimens by the European Commission in the western migratory corridor, of which 81% corresponds to Spain.
Hunting days and management of grounds
One of the main novelties of this season is the extension of the hunting days during the half-open season from two to four. The permitted days will be August 22, 23, 29, and 30, 2026, in the rest of Andalucía, while in the coastal area of Cádiz, the dates will be September 5, 6, 12, and 13, 2026.
80% of the captures have been distributed based on the area of each hunting ground, using the official cartographic information of the hunting lands. The remaining 20% will be allocated to sporting grounds and private grounds participating in habitat improvement projects.
Sustainability measures
The resolution ratifies the guidelines regulating capture in Andalucía, in a context of sustainability. Among the requirements, it is necessary for the holders of the grounds to implement habitat management measures favourable to the European turtle dove, such as maintaining hedges and creating fallow land.
Furthermore, the obligation of the Digital Hunting Seal remains. This tool will allow real-time recording of captures and verification of compliance with the quotas. The system, which had already demonstrated its effectiveness in the previous season, recorded that only 34.45% of the assigned quota was used.
A specific Inspection Plan will also be carried out to ensure that hunting is conducted only in the approved grounds and on the established days, thus complying with the requirements of the NADEG Committee.
