The Bishop of Málaga, José Antonio Satué, has appointed new parish priests for the diocese, with changes in the vicariates of Axarquía, Serranía, Interior, and the Metropolitan Area. The appointments take effect this month.
The Diocese of Málaga has initiated a renewal of its parish leadership with the publication of new appointments signed by Bishop José Antonio Satué. The changes affect dozens of municipalities across the province, from the coast to the interior, and aim to reorganise pastoral care in a territory of over 7,000 square kilometres.
New Parish Priests in Axarquía: Nerja and Frigiliana, Key Changes
In the Vicariate of Axarquía, priest Manuel Arteaga Serrano takes over the parish of San Miguel in Nerja and San Antonio de Padua in Frigiliana. He is joined by Juan Manuel Ortiz Palomo, who will be responsible for El Salvador in Nerja and Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas in Maro, and Antonio Prieto Zurita, who will be the new parish priest of San Juan in Vélez-Málaga.
Also in this area, Víctor Hugo Andrade Madiedo takes charge of the parishes of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in La Cala del Moral and Santa Ana in Totalán. Meanwhile, Rubén Montoya Cejudo will oversee the parishes of Santa Ana in Benamocarra and San Gregorio VII in Iznate.
These changes directly affect the faithful in the region, who will see new faces leading masses and parish activities. The Diocese has emphasised that the transfers aim to optimise spiritual coverage in an area with a high dispersed population and numerous rural centres.
Serranía and Costa del Sol: Estepona, Ronda, and Benalmádena Among Municipalities with Changes
In the Vicariate of Serranía and Costa del Sol, one of the most notable movements is that of Luis Miguel Aguilar Castillo, who continues as parish priest of El Carmen in Estepona and also takes on the parish of San Luis de Sabinillas. José Antonio Melgar Muriana will be responsible for San José in Estepona and the Purísimo Corazón de María in Cancelada.
In Manilva and Casares, José Carlos Huete Arquero adds the parishes of Santa Ana and Santa María de la Encarnación to his role at Nuestra Señora de los Remedios in Estepona. Additionally, Miguel Chacón Vílchez will be a parish vicar in several of these churches and also a hospital chaplain at the Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella, a key position for religious care in the healthcare centre.
In Benalmádena village, Francisco Javier Velasco del Pozo takes over the parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. In Ronda, the pastoral team is strengthened with Francisco Antonio Sánchez Sánchez as moderator and Fernando Eningo Patabobe as parish priest in solidum of several churches in the historic centre.
For residents of Cortes de la Frontera and other villages in the Serranía, Santiago Bremermann Medina will be the new parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, San Juan de Dios in the Estación de Cortes, San Roque in Atajate, and Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Jimera de Líbar. Andrés Conde Cabrera will remain in Ronda but expand his role to include Parauta and Cartajima, while Adam Krawczyk will take care of Júzcar, Faraján, and Alpandeire, in addition to being the chaplain for the Clarisas in Ronda.
Interior and Metropolitan Area: Cártama, Antequera, and Málaga City, the Focus
In the Vicariate of the Interior, Luis Alberto Quijada Ríos takes on the parishes of San Pedro Apóstol in Cártama and Santa Rosalía in the district of Santa Rosalía-Maqueda, with Antonio Ramos Ayala as vicar. In Villanueva del Trabuco, Jorge Daniel Ceratto takes over the parishes of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Villanueva del Rosario, and Santa Cruz in Villanueva de Cauche.
In Alameda and Fuente de Piedra, Fernando José Azuaje Navarro will be the parish priest of the Purísima Concepción and Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes. José Ignacio Postigo Íñigo expands his role to include Bobadilla, Bobadilla-Estación, and Cartaojal, and will be the hospital chaplain at the Hospital de Antequera, a service that caters to patients and staff at the centre.
In Archidona, José Javier García Pascual will oversee Santa Ana, San Aurelio in the Estación de Archidona, and San Isidro Labrador in Salinas. Antonio Jesús Carrasco Bootello will be the new parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in Álora, while José Francisco Fernández Fuentes combines his work in Alhaurín el Grande with the parish of María Auxiliadora in Villa del Guadalhorce and pastoral care at the Hospital del Guadalhorce.
In Coín and Guaro, Manuel Jesús Otero Plaza continues with San Juan and San Andrés in Coín and adds San Miguel in Guaro; Mauricio Salinas Sotomayor remains at San Sebastián de Coín and takes on Santiago in Monda. In Antequera, priest Salvatore Musella, from the Society of the Divine Saviour, will be the new parish priest of El Salvador.
In the Vicariate of the Metropolitan Area of Málaga, the changes affect the capital: José Manuel Bacallado Cabrera will be vicar at Santa María de la Amargura; José García Macías, parish priest of the Visitación de Nuestra Señora; Antonio Javier Castilla Delgado, of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios; Salvador Guerrero Cuevas, of Santiago Apóstol; and José Antonio García Carrasco, of San José Obrero.
The faithful of these parishes can check the mass schedules and activities on the notice boards of each church or on the Diocese's website. The new parish priests will begin their duties in the coming weeks, as confirmed by the Bishopric.
