In Málaga, the Councillor for Social Services, Families and Equality, Loles López, presented this Wednesday in the Plenary of the Andalusian Parliament the advancements of the new dependency model, noting a significant contrast with the situation left by the previous PSOE governments.

Improvements in the dependency system

López highlighted that Andalucía had 34,000 people expelled from the system and 143,000 on the waiting list. Currently, 359,838 people are being attended to, 566,523 benefits are recorded, and waiting times have been reduced to 413 days, the lowest figure in 15 years.

According to López, "to give lessons after leaving dependency in the state they did is shameful, inhumane, and indecent." She argues that the current government's management has transformed a crisis-ridden system into an operational and efficient one.

Initiatives to streamline processes

One of the initiatives announced is the promotion of the use of the Electronic Dependency Window, which facilitates the online submission and consultation of applications and which, according to reports, could reduce processing times by three and a half months.

Additionally, a preferential processing has been implemented for vulnerable groups, including minors under 14 and people over 90 years old. López emphasised the aim of positioning the user at the centre of care.

Since 2019, there has been an increase in funding for the Home Help Service and a significant rise in the creation of places for the elderly and people with disabilities. A package of aid amounting to 134 million euros has been established for the improvement of residential and day centres.

López also criticised the current state reform that does not guarantee the same level of funding received by communities like the Basque Country. She requested equitable treatment for Andalucía, arguing that the regional government defends the interests of Andalusians against the decisions of Sánchez's Government.

The councillor concluded that, although significant progress has been made, work must continue to ensure the sustainability and improvement of the dependency system.
