The shopping centres and shops in Málaga city and eleven municipalities in the province will be able to open every Sunday and holiday in September thanks to the activation of the Tourist Areas of Great Affluence (ZGAT). According to Diario Sur, this measure, in effect since June 7, will remain in place until next Sunday, September 27, inclusive.
Thus, shops will be able to open continuously in the capital and in Algarrobo, Benalmádena, Estepona, Fuengirola, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas, Nerja, Rincón de la Victoria, Torremolinos, and Vélez-Málaga. Interested parties can visit centres such as Larios Centro, Rosaleda, Plaza Mayor, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, Vialia Estación María Zambrano, Málaga Plaza, or Málaga Nostrum, as well as large stores like El Corte Inglés, Leroy Merlin, Conforama, Verdecora, Muelle Uno, or Ikea.
However, the public opening hours on Sundays are usually more limited: generally, they open an hour later and close an hour earlier. As for establishments with a surface area of less than 300 square metres, they have the authority to decide whether to open or not on an extraordinary basis.
In the rest of the province, shopping centres in Rincón de la Victoria, Puerto Marina Shopping (Benalmádena), the El Corte Inglés centres in Mijas and Marbella, La Cañada (Marbella), El Ingenio (Vélez-Málaga), CostasolCentro (Torremolinos), and Miramar (Fuengirola) will also open every day.
With the back-to-school season just around the corner, many households will take advantage of these days to finalise their school supply shopping before students return to classes in Málaga.
