José Antonio Satué, Bishop of Málaga, has announced a series of changes in parishes across the province, with new responsibilities for priests and the arrival of clergy from other countries.
The Bishop of Málaga, José Antonio Satué, has initiated a restructuring of the parish map of the diocese with the appointment of 25 new priests, parish priests, and vicars affecting municipalities throughout the province. The changes, made public on July 19, aim to cover retirements and strengthen service in areas with fewer resources.
Change in diocesan communication
One of the most notable movements is that of Fernando Ortega, who takes on the episcopal delegation for Media Communication. Ortega, with a long career at the Grupo Joly as manager of Málaga Hoy, replaces Rafael J. Pérez Pallarés. The bishop has emphasised that these changes are "necessary to best meet the needs of parishes and diocesan services."
In his letter, Satué expresses gratitude for the availability of the priests and deacons who are relocating and acknowledges the commitment of the laity who "ensure the community's continuity beyond the pastors who serve it." The prelate hopes that the transfers "can inspire a renewed missionary zeal in the priest."
Changes in Axarquía and Costa del Sol
In the Vicaría de la Axarquía, Manuel Arteaga Serrano will be the parish priest of San Miguel (Nerja) and San Antonio de Padua (Frigiliana). Juan Manuel Ortiz Palomo takes on El Salvador (Nerja) and Ntra. Sra. de las Maravillas (Maro). Antonio Prieto Zurita will be in charge of San Juan (Vélez-Málaga). Víctor Hugo Andrade Madiedo will be the parish priest of Ntra. Sra. del Rosario (La Cala del Moral) and Santa Ana (Totalán). Rubén Montoya Cejudo will serve in Santa Ana (Benamocarra) and San Gregorio VII (Iznate).
In the Vicaría de la Serranía y Costa del Sol, Luis Miguel Aguilar Castillo continues at El Carmen (Estepona) and adds San Luis de Sabinillas. José Antonio Melgar Muriana will be the parish priest of San José (Estepona) and Purísimo Corazón de María (Cancelada). José Carlos Huete Arquero takes on Santa Ana (Manilva) and Santa María de la Encarnación (Casares), as well as Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Estepona). Miguel Chacón Vílchez will be a parish vicar in several parishes in Estepona, Manilva, and Casares, and chaplain at the Costa del Sol Hospital (Marbella).
Francisco Javier Velasco del Pozo will be the parish priest of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (Benalmádena-pueblo). Francisco Antonio Sánchez Sánchez and Fernando Eningo Patabobe will serve as parish priests in solidum for several parishes in Ronda. Santiago Bremermann Medina will take charge of Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Cortes de la Frontera), San José (Estación de Cortes), San Roque (Atajate), and Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Jimera de Líbar). Andrés Conde Cabrera adds San Antonio de Padua (Ronda) to his parishes of Parauta and Cartajima. Adam Krawczyk will be the parish priest of Santa Catalina (Júzcar), Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Faraján), and San Antonio de Padua (Alpandeire), and chaplain to the Franciscan Clarist Sisters (Ronda).
Interior of the province
In the Vicaría del Interior, Luis Alberto Quijada Ríos will be the parish priest of San Pedro Apóstol (Cártama) and Santa Rosalía (Santa Rosalía-Maqueda). Antonio Ramos Ayala will serve as parish vicar in the same area. The bishop has noted that the lack of generational turnover forces priests to take on new responsibilities, although help is available from brothers arriving from other countries.
The faithful of the affected parishes will meet their new pastors in the coming weeks when the installations are celebrated. The diocese of Málaga, one of the largest in Andalucía, continues to adapt its structure to the available human resources.
