The Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall will tender the second phase of the Mediterranean Park this year, covering 96,620 square metres and a budget of 8.4 million euros, financed 85% by European FEDER funds.
The Rincón de la Victoria Town Hall has secured funding to execute the second phase of the Mediterranean Park, a project that will more than double the current area of green space. The new phase will cover 96,620 square metres, more than three times the first phase, and will have a base tender budget of 8.4 million euros.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, has confirmed that the project will go out to tender this year and that construction will begin in 2027. “The second phase of the Mediterranean Park represents a decisive step towards completing one of the most transformative projects in Rincón de la Victoria,” said the mayor, who highlighted that it is “a large green infrastructure that will improve the quality of life for our residents.”
The project is included in the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) of the municipality and is part of the sustainable urban development strategy. The final resolution of the grant was issued on January 16, 2026. The project is co-financed 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), under the Multi-Regional Programme of Spain 2021-2027, for a greener and healthier city.
The councillor for Urban Planning and Major Projects, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, detailed that the second phase includes nearly 80,000 square metres of forest area and about 8,000 square metres designated for educational and sports spaces. Additionally, the road on Lebeche Street will be extended northwards, and the bike lane will continue, connecting the new accesses.
“This is the most natural area of the park, structured into three large zones: the forest space, the large educational and sports area, and the network of paths and roads that will articulate the entire route,” explained Jiménez. The project aims for a rustic landscape integration, using soft pavements and natural materials such as wood for picnic tables, shelters, playgrounds, and pergolas.
The first phase of the Mediterranean Park opened its doors on July 13, following an investment of 4.69 million euros. In its nearly 30,000 square metres, residents already enjoy more than 10,000 specimens of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants, a 2,500-square-metre children's area, a 3,500-square-metre lake, biosaludable spaces and petanque areas, a kiosk, and a 1,000-square-metre picnic area, along with 1,277 square metres of shade between pergolas and awnings.
The facilities also include 4,725 square metres of pedestrian paths, a multipurpose circular square of 1,000 square metres, 250 metres of bike lane on Lebeche Street, a viewpoint, two ornamental fountains, six drinking water fountains (two adapted for pets), nearly 250 benches, over 450 linear metres of rest areas, and 52 litter bins.
The park's hours vary by season: in summer, it opens from 07:00 to 00:00 hours, and in winter from 08:00 to 23:00 hours. The first phase was financed with a contribution of one million euros from the Málaga Provincial Council, while the EU co-finances 85% of the total investment for both phases, as well as the rehabilitation of the Cortijo de Lo Cea, the future Node of Blue Economy.
With the second phase, Rincón de la Victoria is moving towards a more sustainable city model, offering its residents a large green lung that combines leisure, sport, and nature in a unique peri-urban environment in the province of Málaga.
