Nerja's old Tajillo Street is now named Paco Haro Street, in an act that recognises the career of one of the most beloved and committed figures in the municipality.
The Nerja Town Hall has made a long-awaited tribute a reality. Tajillo Street, one of the oldest streets in the urban area, has been named Paco Haro since this Wednesday, a key person in the cultural, social, and charitable life of the coastal municipality. The event, held in the Plenary Hall and then on the street itself, was attended by authorities, family members, and numerous neighbours who did not want to miss the recognition.
An event full of emotion and memories
The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, was responsible for opening the institutional event. In the Plenary Hall, he presented Paco Haro with a copy of the municipal agreement, unanimously approved by all political groups, and a replica of the new street sign. Armijo emphasised that talking about Paco Haro means talking about "creativity, participation, culture, traditions, commitment, communication, and especially, solidarity". The mayor highlighted a career marked by constant involvement with Nerja.
After the event at the Town Hall, the procession moved to the old Tajillo Street. There, Paco Haro, visibly emotional, unveiled the plaque that now names the street. He thanked the Town Council and all the political groups for the gesture, and recalled the most important moments of his life linked to that street: his father's carpentry, where he began to work; the birth of the local radio; his time as a teacher at the Workshop School; and his participation in countless initiatives for festivals and popular culture.
A well-deserved recognition for a lifetime
The decision to rename Tajillo Street was not casual. Paco Haro has been one of the most active people in the associative and cultural life of Nerja for decades. His work has ranged from promoting local traditions to organising charitable events, as well as his work in local media. The political unanimity in the plenary reflects the broad social consensus that his figure inspires.
For the residents of Nerja, the name change represents a gesture of historical justice. Tajillo Street, which now bears the name of Paco Haro, is a symbolic place where he himself began his professional and personal journey. The new plaque, installed in a visible location, will serve as a permanent reminder of his legacy.
