The Public Foundation of Nerja Cave Services has announced the cancellation of the 2026 edition of the Nerja Cave Festival due to a challenge presented by the company excluded from the bidding process. The contracting procedure, which was supposed to guarantee between 10 and 12 annual concerts, is halted by the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Resources.

The Public Foundation of Nerja Cave Services announced this Wednesday the cancellation of the 2026 edition of the Nerja Cave Festival. The reason is a special challenge presented by the company that was excluded from the contracting procedure for the organisation of the event during the period 2026-2030.

The contract, which the Foundation began processing in 2025, anticipated the celebration of between 10 and 12 top-level concerts for each edition. The final award had already been made, and the festival was announced for this year.

However, the company ruled out by the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Resources (TACRC) filed a new challenge that has led to the legal suspension of the procedure. This prevents its execution within the necessary timeframes to organise the 2026 event.

A race against time that could not be won

The Foundation claims to have done "everything possible" to save the edition. It expedited the processing, fully collaborated with the TACRC, and took all necessary actions to make the contract and concerts viable.

It also requested the lifting of the suspension, arguing that its maintenance causes serious harm to the public interest. However, the lack of a resolution within the required timeframes has made it materially impossible to organise the festival with the necessary legal, technical, logistical, and safety guarantees.

For the residents of Nerja and the Axarquía region, this news is a cold shower. The Nerja Cave Festival is one of the most important cultural events in Andalusia and a key tourist driver for the area. Each edition attracts thousands of visitors and generates significant economic impact on local hotels, restaurants, and businesses.

The future in the hands of the TACRC

Once the TACRC issues the corresponding resolution, the Foundation will make the necessary decisions to ensure the continuity of future editions. For now, we must wait.

The Foundation deeply regrets the situation and reiterates its commitment to legality, transparency, and the defence of the general interest. In the meantime, music lovers and local entrepreneurs will have to wait at least another year to enjoy this festival in the incomparable setting of the Nerja Cave.
