Cristóbal Díaz achieves sixth place in discus (56.64 m) and Raquel Lobo finishes tenth in long jump (5.72 m) at the U18 European Championships held in the Italian town of Rieti.
The Nerja Trops-Cueva de Nerja Athletics Club has once again put the Eastern Costa del Sol on the map of international athletics. Five of its young talents have represented Spain at the U18 European Championships held in the Italian city of Rieti, returning with top-level results.
Cristóbal Díaz, sixth in discus with 56.64 meters
The discus thrower Cristóbal Díaz was the standout of the Nerja team. He surpassed the qualifying round with a throw of 54.08 meters and in the final reached 56.64 meters, earning him sixth place in Europe. This result confirms his progress and his candidacy for future international events.
Raquel Lobo, tenth in long jump after a great final
In the long jump, Raquel Lobo also made her mark. She passed the qualification with 5.86 meters and in the final achieved a best jump of 5.72 meters, enough to secure the tenth position in the championship. The athlete from Trops-Cueva de Nerja demonstrated consistency and the ability to compete under pressure.
Mario Herrera, eleventh in 400 meters
On the track, Mario Herrera competed in the 400 meters. His time of 48.03 seconds in the first round advanced him to the semifinals, where he clocked 47.80 seconds, placing eleventh overall. He just missed out on the final, but his performance was outstanding.
Sergio López, one centimetre away from the triple jump final
The triple jumper Sergio López was close to making the final. His best jump of 14.76 meters was just one centimetre shy of qualifying for the medal contention. He ultimately finished in thirteenth place, a result that does not overshadow his excellent performance.
Lucía Vaca, semifinalist in 100 meters and relays
The sprinter Lucía Vaca advanced past the first round of the 100 meters with 11.91 seconds and reached the semifinals, where she recorded 11.95 seconds for twenty-first place. Additionally, she was part of the Spanish sprint relay team, which finished in sixth place with a time of 2:08.40, adding another high-level international experience.
