The Infoca Plan has deployed 17 personnel on the ground, a fire engine, and a light aircraft to extinguish the flames in the Antequera area. The fire broke out at 16:50 hours on Saturday with no reported personal injuries or evacuations.

The Infoca Plan has mobilised 17 personnel on the ground, a fire engine, and a light aircraft to combat a forest fire declared on Saturday in the area of La Dehesilla, within the municipality of Antequera. The fire started at 16:50 hours, according to the firefighting team, which reported this via their social media channels.

So far, the operation has not provided information regarding the affected perimeter or the causes of the incident. There have also been no reports of personal injuries, nor has it been necessary to evacuate residents from the area, according to initial reports.

The deployed resources

In addition to the 17 ground personnel, Infoca has sent a fire engine and a light helicopter to assist with aerial firefighting efforts. The rapid response aims to prevent the flames from spreading through the forested area, especially on a day of high temperatures and winds that complicate control efforts.

Antequera experienced another forest fire on June 13, which was stabilised by 18:15 hours and mobilised two Bricas, two groups of forest firefighters, two operations technicians, a fire engine, a light helicopter, and two ground support aircraft. That fire did not affect any homes or cause injuries.

The provincial context: the fire in Árchez

This new fire in Antequera comes at a time when the province is still dealing with the fire declared on Friday in Árchez, in the Axarquía region. That fire, which started around 12:40 hours, forced the preventive evacuation of 162 people from scattered homes in the areas of Árchez, Canillas de Albaida, and Cómpeta. The latter municipality was even confined by order of the authorities.

The Emergency Plan for Forest Fires in Andalusia was elevated to emergency phase (operational situation 1) on Friday afternoon, although it has been downgraded to pre-emergency phase (level 0) on Saturday following the favourable evolution of the flames. Patricia Navarro, the Andalusian government delegate, stated that "the fire no longer presents activity", although the Infoca efforts are focused on an area that "still may pose some risk".

In Árchez, 65 personnel remain on the ground, along with five fire engines, a mobile meteorology unit, and the medical unit of the operation to bring the fire under control. The A-7206, which connects Cómpeta with the N-340 through Algarrobo, remains closed in both directions.

For the residents of Antequera, the situation is relatively calm, although the firefighting operation remains active and it is expected that in the coming hours the affected area can be assessed. Infoca advises the public to remain cautious and avoid approaching the fire area.

The news is being updated and will be expanded with new data as the operation evolves.
